Policy Brief

Europe’s Challenge With Syrians

Neighboring countries of Syria witness humanitarian dimension of the Syrian crisis from the very beginning and take different steps in order to heal this tragedy. Today, European countries have gained awareness about this issue and it has been gradually brought to agenda. However, it is seen that this issue is rather discussed on the axis of effects of immigration to Europe and support given to the countries in the region in order to solve this problem. In fact, although it is relatively easy to follow the tragedies of Syrians who had to leave their own country in the media it is not ever so easy to keep on the agenda of the drama of millions of Syrians who had to stay within the borders of Syria and are stuck in conflict zones. This policy brief aims to draw attention of the humanitarian dimension of
the Syrian crisis by revealing the situation of Syrian asylum seekers in the neighboring countries, focuses on how this issue has become a hot topic on the European agenda and questions the EU’s policies towards the issue.
