Biography
He obtained his undergraduate degree in Political Science and International Relations from Yeditepe University and his master's degree in International Security from the University of Plymouth. He is currently pursuing his PhD studies, at the thesis stage, in the Strategy and Security Studies Programme at the National Defence University's Atatürk Institute for Strategic Studies (ATASAREN).
Şefkatli focuses on the political, social, and security-based issues of Libya and the Sahel region, with a particular emphasis on disarmament, demobilisation, and reintegration (DDR) programmes, especially regarding the integration processes of militia groups. His special interests include topics such as peacebuilding in the context of critical security, power sharing theories, radicalization, and counter-terrorism strategies. His reports and OP-EDs have been published in Al Jazeera, Middle East Monitor, Daily China, TRT World, and the Czech-Slovak Institute of Oriental Studies (CSIORS), and his articles have appeared in national and international peer-reviewed journals.
Şefkatli serves as a researcher in North African Studies at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies (ORSAM). He is fluent in English and proficient in German.
