The Middle East and North African Region, The Current Situation of Selected Countries

This course is designed primarily for Turkish academic students (undergraduate and graduate) and will cover important aspects and trends of the current situation of a selection of countries in the Middle East and North Africa. We will rely on a combination of selected published sources available to the public. These are published books from Western presses, reports and material from ORSAM from the International Crisis Group, and other sources such as TRT World and some published Turkish articles.

Because discussion is encouraged by participants after the lecture, the format is a closed session using Chatham House Rule.  This means that you can use the information that is provided here for personal use, but you cannot identify any speakers or attendants or their affiliations or record or directly publish the proceedings. If using any of the published sources mentioned in the sessions, be advised that all materials used in this course are copyrighted under Turkish law and/or the laws of other countries and your subsequent use of them is subject to copyright laws as described by their publishers. Please acquire only legitimate copies of the materials.

Each week will be dedicated to each selected country. Each session will be a general lecture giving the background for about an hour and 15 minutes and allowing time for a follow-up discussion. This will be a good opportunity to learn about the MENA region and improve your listening and speaking skills in English.
